Description
The monument to the centre of the Dogs Cemetery in Woburn Park was erected in 1916 by Mary, Duchess of Bedford, in memory of her pet dog, Che Foo (Wuzzy), who lived from December 1904 to July 28, 1916. The inscriptions on the monument express deep affection for the dog, reflecting on the bond between them. The structure is made of ashlar, artificial stone, and metal, and takes the form of a small circular temple in a loosely classical style. It features a two-stage circular base with six composite columns standing on rectangular plinths. The plinths are adorned with moulded decorations, primarily of military emblems and trophies. The columns have bands of moulded decoration at their midpoints, and the cornice is decorated with moulded swags. Atop the temple is an open wrought ironwork dome with a finial. In the centre of the temple, there is a moulded and inscribed rectangular plinth that supports a small cast metal figure of a dog.
