Description
The ice house, located approximately 200 metres northwest of Home Farmhouse, dates from the early 19th century and is associated with Wrest Park House. It is constructed of brick and is a rather sophisticated example of its kind. The circular domed ice chamber stands about 8.5 metres high and has a diameter of 4.5 metres, featuring an ice chute at the top. Access to the chamber is via a tunnel that includes three pairs of air-lock doorways, although the air-lock doors have since been removed. The entrance is set into a bank and is reached by two flights of steps from the road above.
