Description

Turvey Cottage is a house dated 1831, constructed from coursed limestone rubble that is now mainly covered in cement render. It features a fishscale tile roof and has one storey with attics, presenting an irregular plan. The east entrance elevation includes left-hand and central projecting gabled wings adorned with bargeboards and drop finials. The left wing features a three-light attic casement with a drip mould and a small bay on the ground floor. The central gable has a similar attic window and a larger ground floor bay. Between the wings is a recessed gable with stone coping and a moulded finial, which also has a two-light casement on both the attic and ground floor, each with drip moulding.

To the right of this is a small gable with a first-floor bay above the entrance porch, which has a parapet and cornice. The porch contains two single-light windows and a three-light window with glazing bars on the north elevation, along with a four-centred archway in an architrave surround. Adjacent to the porch is a gabled dormer above a conservatory that wraps around the end of the building in a semi-circle, finishing under a corresponding dormer on the west elevation.

On the west elevation, to the right of the conservatory, there is a projecting gable, with another gable at the south end of the elevation. This latter gable features carved bargeboards, a drop finial, and a moulded stone finial, with attic sash windows that have drip moulds. The left-hand wing has a ground floor canted bay, while the right wing has French doors. Between these are two gabled dormers, with a third dormer above them in the roof space. The ground floor includes a flat-roofed porch, and to the far right is an additional gabled wing with a sash window on each floor.
