Description
Walnut Tree Cottage is a mid-to-late 19th-century house, originally an estate cottage associated with Kempston Bury. It is built in a picturesque “cottage ornée” style. The exterior is of chequered brick with blue brick detailing, topped with a clay tile roof featuring bands of fishscale tiles.
The house is arranged in a T-shape, with one storey and attic space. The main block has two ground floor windows and two gabled dormers. A two-storey gable to the right has one window per floor. Most windows are two-light casements with cambered heads and cast iron lattice, although some ground floor windows on the right gable and elsewhere have been replaced in the 20th century. A tiled, gabled porch is centrally positioned on the main block. Decorative pierced bargeboards adorn the gables. A tablet bearing a blank shield is set into the right-hand gable above the attic window. The building features a variety of multiple and single chimney stacks.
