Description
College Farmhouse is a timber-frame farmhouse dating to the 16th and 17th centuries, with later additions. It is constructed of timber frame with coursed rubble, brick, and rough cast, all colour washed, and has a clay tile roof. The house is arranged in an H-plan, consisting of a two-storeyed north wing from the 16th century, connected to a two-storeyed and attic 17th century south wing. A one-storeyed 20th century section fills the space between, creating an overall rectangular plan, and a lean-to addition extends from the south elevation. The east elevation’s south gable has one window per floor, while the north gable has two. Most windows are 20th century replacements, aside from a single-light casement with a moulded surround in the south wing attic and a two-light horizontal sash with a moulded surround to the north wing first floor. The west elevation features coursed rubble to the ground floor, brick to the first floor and attic, red brick integral gable end stacks, and 20th century brick coping. Sash windows are present in the link block's first floor. Parts of the north elevation show close-studding with brick infill, and some pinhole pargeting. The interior of the 17th century block includes stopped chamfered spine beams with run-out stops, built-in cupboards, and panelling with an arcading design along the top of the fireplace wall in a first-floor room.
