Description
Wolverley House is a country house, now converted into flats, dating from the mid-18th century, with later 20th-century extensions and alterations. The house is built of brick with stone dressings and has a tile roof.
The west front, which is the main entrance front, is three storeys high. It features a brick parapet with a modillioned stone cornice, stone verges, and ashlar quoins. There are seven windows, all with 15 panes, set in rubbed brick heads with keystones and stone sills. The second floor windows are smaller, with six panes. The central entrance is framed by a stone doorcase featuring engaged Ionic columns and a pediment. A contemporary service wing extends to the left, while a wing dating from the 1930s is located to the right.
The east front, which faces the garden, is also three storeys high and features a central breakfront with a pedimented section and a modillioned stone eaves cornice. The quoins are of ashlar stone. The front has two windows to the left, one centrally, and two to the right. The central window is Venetian, with a stone architrave. Flanking windows have stone architraves and consoles supporting the stone sills. All are 15-pane sashes, with 6-pane sashes on the second floor, including a central Diocletian window. A central entrance is designed in a Venetian style. Projecting wings are located on either side, each featuring three semi-circular headed niches.
Inside, the staircase has iron twist balusters and carved tread ends.
