Description

A block of four houses built around 1800, located on Lichfield Street in Stourport on Severn. The houses were originally designed as a single unit and are constructed of brick with a Welsh slate roof. They are three storeys high, with each house featuring a single bay. The central section of the building was originally symmetrical, although this symmetry has been disrupted by a Victorian addition and partial rebuilding of number 8.

The outer and central doorways are set within pedimented cases, each featuring a traceried fanlight above a six-panelled door. The central doorways are paired, sharing a single architrave for their pediments. The windows are 16-pane sashes, with some attic windows being 8-pane. They have segmentally arched brick heads and stone sills, some of which have been replaced but remain within the original openings. A dentilled eaves band runs along the roofline and gable end stacks are present.

Number 8 features a shallow-pitched, two-storey Victorian addition, added in the late 19th century, which housed an upper ballroom. An original doorcase survives within this section, suggesting a partial rebuilding of an earlier bay. A later flat-roofed extension, also from the 19th century, projects forward from the main building line. Inside, original staircases with moulded open strings and several fireplaces, constructed from marble and slate, have been preserved.
