Description
Tickenhill is a royal manor house that has been converted into a private residence. It dates from the 15th century and was partly demolished and rebuilt in 1738, with some alterations made in the late 20th century. The building is L-shaped, with the main range consisting of four 15th-century framed bays extending to the west, and a later addition extending to the south. The structure features a timber frame clad in brick and has a tiled roof. It stands two stories high with brick-coped verges and a stone-coped parapet. There is a projecting wing on the right that is blind. The house has nine windows, which are boxed glazing bar sashes set under rubbed brick heads with keystones. The central entrance on the ground floor features a pilastered wooden doorcase with a pediment, and the door itself has eight raised and fielded panels.
Inside, there is an 18th-century open well staircase with a ramped handrail and turned balusters. Timber framing is exposed in several rooms, with close-studded walls. An original window can be seen at the east end on the first floor, although it is now internal. The roof contains trusses with arch-braced collars.
