Description
47 Manor Road is an early 19th-century cottage that has been extended in the 21st century, although the modern extension is not included in the listing.
The cottage is constructed of brick and features a tile roof, with cast iron windows on the front and side. The original structure is a simple rectangular block, now with a rear extension that is excluded from the listing.
The cottage stands two storeys tall, with a front elevation that presents a three-bay range, although the central upper window is blank. The central porch has been rebuilt in brick. The front windows are set in Gothick arched openings, each made of cast iron with lattice casements and intersecting tracery in the upper sections. A brick dentil course runs along the eaves, above which is the tile roof. The brickwork on the front elevation is laid in regular courses, clearly distinguishing it from the brick used on the side and rear elevations.
On the south side, there is a blocked window with a cambered arch at first floor level, along with two narrower Gothick windows in the rear section of the building. The modern rear extension is located beyond this area.
The north elevation features a 20th-century door opening at ground floor level, with a window above it.
Inside, the original part of the cottage contains two rooms on each floor, arranged on either side of a central staircase. Beneath the northern room is a cellar that has a barrel vaulted brick roof. An upstairs room retains a cast iron fireplace.
