Description
Dadbrook Cottage is an early 19th-century cottage with a later 19th-century extension. It is located in Cuddington. The cottage is constructed of wichter, rubble, and pebble-dashed rendering, with flush rendered quoins and a plinth. It has a thatched roof. Originally consisting of two cells, it is now two storeys high, with a single-story bay and later outhouses to the north. An integral brick stack is present to the south, and there's an added external brick stack to the original north gable, both featuring brick bands. The original entrance, formerly on the west side, is now blocked. The windows are mostly timber casements with six panes, except for a rear first-floor window with four panes and a likely inserted front window with two plain lights. All windows have flush rendered reveals and tile sills. A single-story extension is coarsely built from rubble, tile, and wichter, with a roof renewed in 2001, replacing a previous one made of rough-cut branches covered in thatch. A 20th-century door and a four-pane casement flank the entrance. A single light on the north wall retains external shutter hinges.
The interior originally comprised two ground-floor cells, now combined into one. It includes an internal brick stack with a 20th-century fire and surround. A winder staircase is located to the east, with a ledge and batten door. Cupboards are situated to the west, the lower one featuring H hinges. A matching cupboard is on the first floor. A late 19th-century cast iron fire surround is also present on the first floor.
