Description
This building, known as Nos. 22, 23, and 24 York Street, is a group of shops dating from around 1820. Constructed of brick and topped with a Welsh slate roof, it stands three stories tall and features five bays facing York Street, with a curved bay at the corner and a single bay fronting Bridge Street. The largest shop unit occupies the corner, with a shop front that wraps around the curve. The former doorway in the curved angle has been converted into a window as part of an early 20th-century front, which includes fluted pilasters supporting the fascia and lined out stucco between the door and flanking windows. The upper windows are 12-pane sashes, with 6-pane sashes in the attic storey, all featuring flat-arched rubbed brick heads. The upper windows along the curve are glazed but blind. The two smaller shops on York Street have more recent shop fronts but maintain similar detailing above. A dentilled eaves band adds to the architectural interest.
