Description
The barn range at Lower House is a Grade II listed building located in Stourport on Severn, dated 1759, although it was constructed in several phases. The structure is primarily built of brick, featuring one timber-framed gable and a plain tiled roof. It consists of two ranges that are at right angles to each other and at different levels, creating a courtyard to the southwest.
The earliest range runs from northeast to southwest and includes three inserted double doors on its southeast elevation, along with an external staircase leading to the loft. The southwest gable is timber framed with brick infill, which may indicate the remnants of an earlier building. The roof features a king post construction, with square panels and arched bracing above a slightly cambered middle rail.
The lower range, which is at right angles to the earlier range, is from the later 18th century and has some modifications from the early 19th century. It includes two wide entries to a cart shed, which are topped with brick relieving arches over timber lintels, as well as a round-arched doorway leading to a store.
