Description
The gate piers, gates, and adjoining walls located about 100 yards south of Beckford Hall are likely from the mid-18th century, with some alterations made in the mid-19th century. The gate piers are made of limestone ashlar and feature a chamfered base, a moulded cornice, and a flat capping with a prominent overhang. They have long raised and moulded rectangular panels on the front and back, with smaller panels above and below. Each pier is topped with large fluted urns that have pyramidal bases. The gates are constructed from cast iron and are decorated with ornate scrolled and foliated cresting, flanked by openwork cast iron piers. The adjoining walls are built from coursed limestone ashlar and have a ridged rubble coping above a continuous projecting course, which steps where it meets the gate piers. The coping at the eastern end of the wall has been repaired with ashlar.
