Description
This chest tomb, located about 4 yards north-west of the nave of the Church of St John the Baptist, is probably from the mid-18th century and is made of ashlar stone. It features a moulded base and a flat capping, with corner rebates that include quadrant balusters supported by gadrooned bases and foliated capitals. The side panels are adorned with elaborately sculpted borders in high relief, featuring a cartouche on the south side and fruit and flower details on the north side. Each end of the tomb has panels with segmental heads, displaying an emblematic device in high relief on the east and a sunburst relief with putti heads on the west. The tomb commemorates Richard ?, who died in 1746.
