Description
The Close is a house dating from the 17th century, with some early 19th century and mid-20th century alterations. It is constructed of coursed rubble with ashlar dressings and has a Cotswold stone roof. The building is L-shaped, with ranges extending to the west, featuring a gable-end stack, and to the south, which has a lateral stack.
The east front has two storeys, with a stone-coped verge on the right and a rebuilt brick section on the left. There are two windows on the upper floor: a fixed casement under a segmental head to the left and a 2-light stone mullioned window to the right. The ground floor features a 2-light casement window to the left and a similar mullioned window to the right. The entrance is located in the angle between the ranges, accessed through a 20th-century porch. The gable-end stack is decorated with motifs carved in relief, including a dog and a fleur-de-lys.
Inside, there is an inglenook fireplace with two small recesses, each featuring a triangular head in the rear wall. The other stack has a triangular stone head above the fireplace.
