Description
No. 9 Church Row is the end cottage of a terrace of six, likely built in the early 16th century but significantly altered and refronted in the early 19th century. The cottage is timber framed, rebuilt in brick, and rendered with lined stucco. It features a steeply-pitched plain tile roof with brick dentilled eaves and has no visible chimney stack.
The exterior has two storeys and a single-window range. On the first floor, there is a remodelled 3/3/3-pane casement window with a projecting sill. The ground floor has a similar 3/3-pane casement window beneath a segmental head, which is adorned with channelled voussoirs, a keystone, and a projecting sill. To the left, there is a plank door set in a moulded surround, which also has a similarly moulded arch above. The building has a plinth.
Inside, there is a large fireplace with a timber lintel and adjacent stairs. The interior features exposed brace and cruck framing, a chamfered spine beam, and an internal chimney breast on the first floor.
