Description

This is a 17th-century house, altered in the late 19th century, located on Church Street in Broadway. It is constructed of squared limestone with a stone slate roof. The house is two storeys high with an attic, and has four bays. The windows are rebated and chamfered with mullions. The ground floor features canted bay windows to the front, with two lights facing forward and one light on each side. The first-floor windows are tall, with four lights each, and have hoods above, except for the window in the third bay, which has two lights. Three attic dormers are present. The doorway, situated in the third bay, has a reset early 18th-century timber doorcase featuring engaged Ionic columns, a Corinthian entablature, and a swan-necked pediment with carved foliage. The gables are coped. A chimney is located in line with the doorway and on the left-hand gable. The rear of the property features two adjoining gables, with a third gabled wing to the left (south) that contains a stair. A plaque under the apex of the middle gable displays initials and a date, "17874(?)". The right-hand gable has a reset single-light window of 14th-century style under the apex, with a trefoil ogee head. The left-hand gable has a blocked 17th-century attic window with an elliptical head. Inside, the southern ground floor room contains a moulded and stopped ceiling beam, possibly dating to the 16th century. The first-floor room above has an ovolo-moulded beam of 17th-century type.
