Description

This is a house located at 2 St Peter's Walk in Droitwich Spa, dating from the 17th century, which incorporates some earlier timbers and was remodeled in the early 19th century. The house is timber-framed and has been re-fronted in Flemish bond red brick, topped with a clay plain tile roof featuring gabled ends and brick gable-end stacks.

The building has a two-bay plan, with the eaves raised and the front wall rebuilt in brick during the early 19th century. There is a 20th-century rear outshut. The exterior is two storeys high with an almost symmetrical three-bay east front. The windows are arranged to the left and feature flat rubbed brick arches; the ground floor has large 12-pane sashes, while the first floor has smaller 9-pane sashes, with the center window on the first floor being blind. The central doorway has a 20th-century architrave and a plank door.

On the rear side, the house displays exposed timber-framing and an early 19th-century three-light window, along with the 20th-century outshut. Inside, the interior features exposed timber-framing. The left room contains a chamfered axial beam with straight cut stops at one end. There is a framed partition between two rooms, which includes a re-used post with ovolo moulding and redundant mortices. The smaller right-hand room has exposed framing in the rear wall with long straight tension-braces. On the first floor, the end trusses are exposed, and there is a central closed truss with a heavy tie-beam on jowled posts, along with a collar and raking struts above. The heavy scarfed purlins are raised on blocks on the backs of the principals, and the common rafters have been re-set with a ridge board.
