Description

The Chalet is a house built in 1891, constructed of brick with ashlar dressing and a tiled roof, designed in the French Renaissance style. It has an irregular plan, with a notable circular stair turret located at the angle between two gabled wings. The south front features one storey with attics, dominated by a roughly central gabled wing that includes an entrance flanked by fixed casements. The entrance is highlighted by a flat stone canopy with a plain overlight and a panelled door. Above the canopy, there is a decorative panel that displays the date 1891. The gable has a stone-coped verge with ball finials on the kneelers, and the gable window is adorned with an ashlar segmental pediment and stone architrave, featuring a wooden cross window and a wrought iron balcony. To the left of the central wing is the circular stair turret, topped with a conical roof made of scalloped tiles and small single windows. Adjacent to the turret on the left is a flat-roofed room with a window that has a stone lintel. To the right of the central wing, there are two 2-light casements under a stone lintel. The architectural style of The Chalet is reminiscent of the nearby, earlier Château Impney Hotel.
