Description

KEMERTON CP - SO 93 NE 3/150 Barn at Sundial Farm - II

Barn. Mid-C18 with mid-C20 alterations. Coursed limestone rubble with ashlar dressings, some timber-framing with brick infill and weatherboarding; plain tiled roof with parapets at main gable ends and to lean-to outshuts. Three bays aligned north/south, central wagon bay with opposed cart entries and large two-bay gabled midstrey on west side which has flanking lean-to outshuts with catslide roofs. Main part of barn has ventilation slits, a square window in the north end and in the apex of the south gable is a square sundial. The east cart entry has some C20 alterations. Main west elevation gable end of midstry has weatherboarding above the double doors. The roof eaves overhamg on shaped brackets and there is a queen-post roof truss. The flanking outshuts have rectangular openings and there is a small door in the south side of the southern outshut. Interior: roof of main part has two inter- mediate queen-post trusses and two tiers of purlins. There is a similar inter- mediate truss in the midstrey. The farmhouse has been demolished and only part of one other farm building survives. (not included on this list)
