Description
The Round House, formerly known as the Booth Hall, is a Grade I listed building located at 2 Bridge Street, dating from the late 15th century. It has been well restored in 1964 and 1965. The structure features a timber frame with closely set vertical members and stands three storeys tall, with overhangs on the first and second floors on all four sides. The building has four renewed three-light oriel windows supported by wooden brackets, with leaded casements; those on the north side still have 19th-century iron casements. It has double gables on the north and south sides. Heavy timber posts are positioned at the corners and between each bay, extending to the second floor and supporting the overhangs with cross beams. The ground storey includes three modern multi-paned splayed bay windows and a restored or renewed moulded wood doorway with a pointed arched head, leading to a modern multi-panelled divided door. The building features sprocket eaves and a Cotswold stone roof. It is set on a low stone base, with modern wrought iron railings in front of the bays. The interior has been altered and well restored but retains much of its exposed timber framing throughout.
