Description

These buildings at 6 and 6A Market Place date back to the early 19th century, though the original core of the structure likely originates from the 16th or 17th century. The exterior is finished with roughcast render and features two storeys and five casement windows, with one window breaking the eaves. There's a plain doorway and a canted shop bay window on the right-hand side, which has modern glazing. A more recent shop front projects from the ground floor on the left side. The roof is tiled.

The buildings are part of a group with the Public Library at Nos 7 and 8, Walker Hall, Abbot Reginald’s Gateway, The Old Vicarage, Church of St Lawrence, Church of All Saints, The Bell Tower, Abbot Reginald’s Wall, the Porter’s Lodge, remains of the North Transept of the Abbey, an archway to the south of that wall, Market Place, Nos 53 and 54 (incorporating remains of an Abbey Gate, gate and railings, remains of Abbey Stables, The Almonry and The Stocks), Merstow Green.
