Description

Orchard Farm Cottage is a late 17th-century house with additions dating to 1722. It is constructed from limestone rubble, covered by a stone slate roof. The house is two storeys with an attic. The east-facing wall features a four-light rebated and chamfered mullioned window with a hood mould on the ground floor, and a three-light mullioned window within a gable that illuminates the first floor. To the left of this, on the ground floor, are two windows with plain reveals. The right-hand side of the facade is concealed by a lean-to addition. A chimney is located on the right-hand side. The north gable has a three-light rebated and chamfered mullioned window with a hood mould on each floor; the ground floor window is likely a 20th-century replacement. To its left is a small window with plain reveals. To the right, beyond a straight joint, is a two-bay addition with two-light rebated and chamfered mullioned windows, including hood moulds on the ground floor, and two attic dormers. A blocked doorway with a cyma-moulded surround now contains a two-light window; above it is a plaque inscribed "WAS 1722". A chimney is located to the right. The interior contains exposed chamfered beams and a stone inglenook with a bressummer in the 18th-century wing.
