Description

The Parkes memorial is a chest tomb located about 25 yards south-east of the chancel of the Church of St Mary the Virgin. It dates from the mid-19th century and is constructed of ashlar stone. The tomb features a moulded plinth and cornice, a raised hipped capping, and a horizontally grooved frieze. It has fluted and tapered corner balusters, as well as shaped and raised side inscription panels and raised oval inscription panels at the ends. The memorial commemorates a person named Parkes, who died in 1844. It is a large and boldly detailed chest tomb.
