Description
The Old Grammar School is a building from the 16th century or earlier, although it has been significantly altered and partly converted into a club, featuring modern windows. The exterior is faced in cement and the building has two storeys. It retains a stone castellated porch with a pointed arched doorway that includes carved panels and a lintel, along with a weathered inscription that reads "Orate pro anima Clementis Abbatis," referring to Abbot Clement Lichfield who passed away in 1546. The return side of the building has two sash windows, five hipped dormers, and a modern doorway. The roof is made of Cotswold stone. The Old Grammar School, along with Nos 1 to 7 (consecutive) and Nos 16 and 17 Vine Street, forms a group of buildings of architectural interest.
