Description
No. 37 Friar Street is a house that was formerly a printing works and was disused at the time of review. It dates from the early 19th century and has undergone later additions and alterations, including changes made in the mid-20th century to the ground floor. The building is constructed of pinkish-red brick in Flemish bond and features a plain tile roof with tall brick end stacks that have oversailing courses.
The structure has three storeys and five first-floor windows. The first floor is fitted with 6/6 sash windows, while the second floor has 3/3 sash windows, all set in plain reveals with flat arches made of gauged brick and with sills. On the ground floor, to the left, there are part-glazed plank garage doors, a continuous frieze, and fascia above. There are also two windows with plain reveals, sills, and flat arches—one is boarded up, and the other is a 6/1 sash. The entrance on the right is a plank door with a flat arch of gauged brick. The building has a raised and coped gable end.
The interior has not been inspected. All the listed buildings in Friar Street form a group.
