Description
41 Friar Street is a house that has been converted into a restaurant. It likely dates from the 17th century but was rebuilt in the early 19th century, with additional changes made later, including a shop front and windows added in the mid-20th century. The building features a timber frame with brick nogging and a tiled roof on the rear section, while the front is made of colourwashed brick laid in Flemish bond with a concealed roof. It stands three stories tall and has two windows on the first floor, along with a range at the back. The first and second floors have casement windows set in plain reveals, with flat arches made of gauged brick and sills on the second floor. The shop front includes plate glass windows set on plinths, angled towards a glazed door. The rear section retains its square framing.
Inside, the ground floor showcases chamfered cross beams, a column cluster stanchion, exposed square panels of timber framing, and a diagonal tension brace on the right wall, along with another morticed post. The rest of the interior was not inspected.
