Description
Northwick Grange is a house, now functioning as a rest home, built around 1730 to 1750 with later additions and alterations, including a porch added around 1800 and 20th-century dormers. The building features pinkish-brown brick with a stuccoed front facade, a hipped plain tile roof, and external stacks on both the right and left sides, which are slightly truncated but still have pots. There is also one internal stack and an external stack on the rear outshut.
The house has a central hallway plan with rear outshuts and stands two storeys tall with attics, featuring three first-floor windows. The central section of the facade projects slightly forward and has a chamfered plinth. The first floor includes a central 6/6 sash window and outer imitation 8/8 sashes, all set in plain reveals with sills and flat arches that have keystones. The central entrance is framed by a solid porch supported by two Doric columns, leading to a five-raised-and-fielded-panel door with an overlight featuring radial glazing bars and a pediment above. There is a band above the first floor and a modillion eaves cornice. The three attic dormers include outer dormers with three-light casements and inner dormers with two-light casements, all topped with pedimented gables on corbels. At the rear, there is a single-storey range that has two 8/8 sash windows and a moulded cornice. The interior has not been inspected.
