Description
Bordesley Lodge Farmhouse is a farmhouse that has been converted into a house. It dates back to around 1600, with alterations and additions made in the mid-19th century. The building is timber-framed with brick infill, some refacing, and replacement walling set on a sandstone base, and it has partly roughcast walls. The roofs are plain tiled.
The main section consists of four framed bays that are aligned from north-west to south-east. The second bay from the south-east end is narrower and features a large chimney with a brick ridge stack. An L-shaped wing extends from the rear of the south-easternmost bay. The farmhouse has two storeys, an attic, and a cellar.
In terms of framing, the main part has three rows of square panels at the first floor level, with short straight braces in some upper corners. Some close-studding is visible in the rear wing, and the north-east gable end of this wing displays a collar and tie-beam truss with two exposed struts, suggesting it may have originally had an intermediate truss before the wing was shortened.
The windows are primarily 19th-century casements. On the south-west front elevation, the ground floor features two three-light windows (one of which is blocked) and a hipped canted bay window. The first floor has two three-light windows and one four-light window. The main entrance, located to the left, includes a hipped-roofed brick porch with trellis infill and a six-panelled door. There are also attic lights in the gable ends.
Inside, the main ceiling beams are stop-chamfered, and there is a large fireplace in the former hall. Additionally, there is a 19th-century single-storey kitchen addition at the rear.
