Description
The Mortuary Chapel, dated 1879, was designed by John Francis Greswolde. It is constructed of stone rubble, incorporating some reused medieval masonry, and features ashlar dressings. The roof is tiled with decorative diaper and bonded patterns, and there are gable parapets. A timber-framed bell turret with a slate roof is present. The chapel has two bays and includes two cusped lancets on the north and south elevations, while the east elevation showcases a three-light Decorated window. The west doorway is designed with a pointed arch that has reveals and a drip mould.
Inside, the chapel features a timber roof supported by three hammer-beam trusses, and it contains the remains of a Norman font with chevron detailing. There are contemporary pews and an altar table, along with two 18th-century wall memorials at the west end and four late 19th-century wall memorials at the east end. The chapel is situated on the site of the east end of the former parish church.
