Description
Marsh Court Farmhouse is a 16th-century house featuring timber-framing with brick infill set on a stone plinth, topped with a tile roof. The timber-framed section of the house is constructed in a long range, sloping from south to north, with the plinth becoming a cellar wall at the northern end. The walls are framed in square panels, although part has been replaced with brick. The ground floor has three 20th-century metal casement windows, while the first floor has four. There are doors to the right of the first window and at the far right. The roof is half-hipped on the left and hipped on the right. There are chimneys located to the right of the left-hand wall and to the right of the third window, with the latter positioned forward of the ridge. Inside, the first floor has been removed from the right-hand end of the house. Two visible roof trusses feature tie-beams that are moulded with hollow chamfers and a roll, along with collars and raking struts. The wind-braces are curved. At the first floor level, there is a blocked doorway with a Tudor arch that once led to a rear lean-to, likely a former stair projection. Additionally, a blocked doorway in the partition wall has a depressed ogee head. The roof over the northern part of the house was not fully accessible during the survey in May 1986, but the visible trusses appeared similar to the others, indicating that the main range is likely of a single build.
