Description

Marshlands is a house dating back to the 17th century, or possibly earlier, and altered in the 20th century. The house has a cruck-framed structure with walls constructed of timber framing, brick, and concrete block, and a roof covered in bituminous felt tiles. It is a one-storey building with an attic. The front of the house to the left of the porch is faced with concrete blocks and features a 20th-century steel French window. To the right, the exposed timber framing is square-panelled and partly repaired with painted concrete, with one 20th-century window. Three 20th-century dormers are set into the attic. The doorway is sheltered by a 20th-century flat-roofed porch. A chimney is situated on the left-hand side. The left-hand gable wall reveals an exposed cruck truss, which is partly concealed by a lean-to addition. The rear wall displays exposed timber framing in irregular square panels, with floor beams tusk-tenoned through the principal posts. Inside, a second cruck truss is visible to the left of the doorway.
