Description
The Old Church, formerly the Church of St Mary, is a former parish church built in 1856 by A.E. Perkins on a new site. It is constructed from stone rubble with ashlar dressings, featuring a tiled roof with horizontal banding and decorative ridge tiles. The church comprises a nave, chancel, north porch, and a north vestry with its own porch. The nave has three bays with two-light windows and buttresses, including an octagonal belfry and spirelet projecting from a central buttress. The chancel has a cusped lancet window on its north and south walls, along with a three-light east window. The north porch has a gabled roof with a parapet and finial, side lancets, and an arched doorway with a splayed moulding and a timber door with pierced decoration. The vestry has a gabled roof, corner buttresses, and a north lancet. A small porch is situated between the vestry and chancel, mirroring the design of the north porch and housing a planked timber door.
The interior includes a Norman font, a 19th-century timber roof, and 19th-century pews. A 20th-century pulpit, altar table, and altar rails are also present, along with late 19th-century stained glass in the east window and early 20th-century stained glass in the west windows and central window of the south wall. A parish chest is located within the north porch.
