Description

The Malthouse is a substantial early 18th century brick house situated on the waterside. It is three storeys high with a low-pitched slate roof. The building has a five-window front, with a recessed centre bay. A brick dentil cornice runs along the top of the building. String courses are visible across the outer bays above the second-floor windows. The windows are set within segmental head openings with keystones; the ground-floor windows are elongated and have cornice strips. Exposed box sash windows with original glazing bars are present throughout, with half-length windows to the second floor. A Palladian window, featuring moulded cornices to the side lights and a carved keystone, is centrally located on the first floor. A similar arrangement exists at the ground floor, framing a six-panel door with side lights and an arched fanlight with radiating glazing bars. A modern extension has been added to the rear.
