Description
Cliffey Farmhouse is a house that likely dates from the 17th century. It features timber framing and a tiled roof, with the main part of the house arranged in an L-shape over two storeys. The main range is framed with three rows of square panels, each panel containing an added central stud that is not pegged. There is one window on the ground floor and two on the first floor, with a door to the right located under a slated canopy. To the right, there is a one-bay cross-wing that has a jetty, which is partly underbuilt in brick. The truss in this section includes vertical struts between the tie-beam and collar, as well as curved struts above the collar. Set back to the right is an additional range that may be of a later date; it is close-studded with three rails and has one window on each floor. On the left side, there is a lean-to brick porch. The house features chimneys on the rear wall of this range and on the ridge of the cross-wing, with the latter having a multi-flue stack that has a star-shaped outline. The gable truss of the right-hand range also includes struts between the tie-beam and collar. The interior was not accessible at the time of the survey in June 1986.
