Description
This is a group of three chest tombs located about 9 yards southeast of the chancel of the Church of St Mary Magdalene, dating from around 1830, with the southernmost tomb being a late 19th-century copy. They are made of sandstone ashlar and are designed in a Greek-revival style. The two oldest tombs feature moulded plinths and reeded corner pilaster strips topped with rosettes. The middle tomb has additional reeded pilaster strips on the north and south sides, along with ridged capping and antefixae. Each tomb has shaped inscription panels with corner rosettes and inscriptions in various lettering styles. The later tomb presents a simplified design, with reeded pilaster strips only on the north and south faces, slightly ridged capping with antefixae, and rectangular inscription panels. The inscriptions on the northern tomb are illegible. The middle tomb has a legible inscription for Elizabeth Birch, who died in 1823. The southern tomb includes an inscription for Fanny Davies, who died in 1807, and Benjamin Davies, who died in 1871, along with an end panel for Mary Smith, who died in 1902.
