Description
This barn, now used as a stable and store, is located to the north of Arundle's Farmhouse. It likely dates from the 15th century and has been altered in the 17th and 19th centuries. The structure is timber-framed with brick and wattle-and-daub infill, and features brick replacement walling and a tiled roof. It consists of four framed bays, including a wagon bay with opposing cart entries at the south end. The framing is irregular, showcasing a full cruck truss in the south gable end, although the lower half of the west blade is missing. The framing mainly consists of two panels from the sill to the wall-plate, with long straight braces in the lower corners at the north end. The front elevation facing the road has double planked doors at the south end and two square openings with shutters. Inside, there are two intermediate raking strut trusses and single, trenched purlins. Additionally, there is a hipped, timber-framed extension at the south gable end and a 20th-century flat-roofed porch that connects the barn to the farmhouse.
