Description

Hanley Hall is a house dating from around 1600, constructed with timber framing and painted brick, topped with a tile roof. It has an H-plan layout and is framed in square panels, with some studwork replaced by painted brick. The building has two storeys. The left-hand cross-wing consists of two parts, with the forward-projecting section being narrower and featuring a lean-to addition on its left side. The gable of the rear part is visible to the left of the front gable. Both gables have struts between the tie-beam and collar, along with V-struts above. The wing has one bay, and the ground floor window projects as a square oriel. The recessed centre has two bays with doors located in the left-hand bay and the right. The right-hand cross-wing features a two-storey canted bay window with sashes that have glazing bars on the ground floor. The exposed truss in this wing is similar to those in the other cross-wing. There are chimneys at the rear of the hall and on the left-hand walls of both cross-wings.

Inside, the hall displays two exposed moulded ceiling beams and an inglenook. The staircase features stick balusters. In the rear room of the right-hand cross-wing, there is a stone fireplace with a Tudor arch and re-set encaustic tiles believed to be from Malvern Priory. Above the fireplace is an oak overmantel with two panels. The room is lined with square panelling of an early 17th-century style. The plaster ceiling is adorned with thin intersecting moulded ribs and cast motifs, including fleur-de-lys.
