Description

The Villa is a house dating from the early 19th century, with a later 20th-century rear wing. It is constructed of stuccoed brick with a clay tile roof featuring deep eaves and lead rolls to the hips and ridge. Brick side stacks are topped with yellow clay pots.

The house follows a double-depth plan, featuring a central entrance and stair hall, with principal rooms to the left and right of the front. The south front is symmetrical with three bays, and includes plain pilasters set back from the corners. It has sash windows with glazing bars; larger 16-pane sashes on the ground floor and 12-pane sashes above, all with stone cills. A central round-headed doorway is topped with a semi-circular fanlight containing radiating glazing bars, and has a panelled door. A verandah stretches across the front, supported by ornate, open-work cast-iron standards that hold a tent-shaped canopy. The east and west sides have set-back buttresses and projecting brick stacks.

Inside, much of the original joinery remains, including panelled doors and a staircase with stick balusters and a moulded mahogany handrail, wreathed over the curtail and with shaped, fretted tread ends.

The Villa represents a good example of a small, late Georgian house.
