Description
The Village Stores is a house that now includes a shop, dating from the mid to late 17th century, with a date inscribed on the fireplace lintel of 1686. The building features a timber frame, but is mostly constructed of red brick in Flemish bond, topped with a plain tiled roof. It has curvilinear end gables, a brick modillion cornice, and an off-centre brick stack. The structure is two storeys high, with cellars and a garret, and consists of four bays, although the right bay is now obscured by a projecting wing made of timber-frame with painted brick infill. The ground floor has four-light segmental headed casement windows, while the first floor features two-light cross windows, with a plain band between the two levels. There is a central 20th-century door under a porch and an additional door in the end gable, along with a projecting stack. Some blue brick diaper-work is present between the upper windows and in the end stack.
