Description

Steppingley is a house dating from the early 17th century, with extensions added in the early 19th century and late 20th century. The building features a timber frame with brick infill and a machine-tiled roof. It consists of two framed bays oriented north to south, with a 20th-century extension to the north and a 19th-century wing to the east. There is a lateral stack on the east wall of the framed portion.

The garden front, facing west, has two storeys and an attic, which is illuminated by two 20th-century gabled dormers. The front has five windows, a mix of 2- and 3-light casements. On the ground floor, there are French casements to the right and a 20th-century gabled porch with a half-glazed door to the left, along with the 20th-century extension.

The south gable jetties at the ground floor, and there is a tie-beam with a moulded bressummer above it. The wall has three square panels high, featuring straight angle braces over close-studding. The roof trusses include clasped purlins with four struts to the collar and V-struts in the apex. Inside, there is a doorhead with a flattened ogee profile in the attic and numerous exposed beams, including chamfered and stopped ceiling beams.
