Description

Old Bank Chambers and St Peter's Chambers, formerly known as Queen's Business College and the premises of Thorne Beckett and Company, is a late 18th-century building located on Lich Gates in Wolverhampton. It features a brick structure with a stucco ground floor and dressings, topped by a hipped parapeted roof. The building stands three storeys high and has a five-window range.

The projecting rusticated ground floor is adorned with a cornice and blocking course, while the top cornice and flat pilasters frame the ends. The windows are sashed, with the ground floor showcasing tripartite windows in the first and third bays, and two round-headed windows in the fifth bay. The first and second bays have rubbed brick flat arches above four-pane sashes, while the fifth bay contains smaller, lower windows with a casement on the second floor.

There are round-headed entrances in the second and fourth bays, with the fourth bay featuring a projecting surround, panelled pilasters, an archivolt, and a keystone with a cornice. The steps leading to the entrances are equipped with handrails that have twisted balusters and end urn finials, with similar posts supporting the front chain-link fencing.

The right return of the building, which leads to Cheapside, has an additional floor and similar architectural details, but the ground floor includes two large plate glass windows and tripartite windows in the first and second floors, with a casement window on the top floor and a central round-headed entrance. At the rear, there is a two-storey wing that adjoins Nos 43 and 44 Queen Square, featuring a second-floor tripartite sash window with glazing bars. The interior has not been inspected.
