Description

Nos. 244 and 246 Bridgnorth Road are a pair of houses built around 1890 by Edward Ould for Theodore Mander. They feature timber framing on a brick base and have a tiled roof with brick stacks, showcasing a Vernacular Revival style. The houses are single storey with an attic, and the central section projects under two gables. The simple framing includes large curved braces. The centre has wooden ovolo-mullioned windows with leaded glazing, with four lights on the ground floor and three lights on the first floor. There are re-entrant porches under hipped roofs, each with battened doors that have top lights, and three cross-axial stacks. The returns are similar, and there is a gabled dormer at the rear. These houses were built as part of a planned village for the Wightwick Manor estate, although the project was not completed.
