Description

This is a row of four houses and shops dating from the early 19th century, with alterations made in the late 19th and 20th centuries. The buildings are constructed of brick in a Flemish bond pattern; numbers 21 and 22 have been painted. They have a slate roof. The row has two storeys and five bays. The first-floor windows are sash windows with glazing bars and stone sills. The left-hand bay has a later 19th-century shop front with a door. The second bay features a 20th-century window beneath a wide stone lintel featuring stepped, chamfered false voussoirs. The fourth bay has a shop front and entrance door. The right-hand bay has a sash window with glazing bars, set beneath a lintel with stepped false voussoirs. To the right of this window is a door with a timber doorcase featuring Tuscan pilasters. To the left of the third bay is a similar doorcase, though the lower portion is now missing. A cart entrance is located in the third bay, featuring an elliptical brick arch. Chimneys are situated to the right of the fourth bay and on the right-hand gable. The buildings are included on the list for their group value.
