Description
No. 53 Walsall Street is a house dating from the early to mid-19th century. It is constructed of brick in Flemish bond and has a slate roof. The building is two storeys high and has three bays. The windows are sashed and feature glazing bars. The lintels above the windows have central paterae and hoods supported by console brackets. In the central bay of the first floor, there is a blind recess with a similar lintel. A sill band runs along the first floor. The timber doorcase, located in the central bay, is adorned with pilasters that have foliated necking and a lintel carved with festoons and other ornamental reliefs. The left-hand gable is coped with a kneeler, and there are chimneys at each end. The interior is said to contain a staircase with cast-iron balusters.
