Description

These are a mirrored pair of houses built in the early 1850s by Henry Farrington. They were originally known as Hatherton Lake Villas and are listed as a complete example of a planned development. The houses are constructed of brick with painted stone and stucco dressings, and have a hipped slate roof with projecting bracketed eaves. Each house has two bays, with a third, set-back bay to the outside. The ground floor features timber canted bay windows. The first-floor windows are eight-pane sashes with architraves, sill bands, and cornices resting on console brackets. The front doors are set in the middle bay of each house, and are surrounded by decorative stonework with round heads, sheltered by Ionic porches supported by pilaster responds. Chimneys are located between the houses to the front and rear of the roof ridge, and also positioned in line with the set-back outer bays.
