Description
The North East Range and South West Range at the Lady Katherine Leveson Hospital were founded in 1677 and built by William Hurlbutt in the early 18th century. The hospital was incorporated in 1704 and had 27 residents by 1721. The building features a narrow courtyard flanked by two long ranges made of red brick with sandstone dressings and has old tiled roofs. There are shorter cross wings at the south-east end, and the structure is two storeys high with attics in the cross wings. The first floor has bands, and the windows are two-light stone mullion and transom casement types with glazing bars, set flush in plain surrounds. Central pediments face the courtyard, featuring round panels in the tympana. The north-west cross wings are gabled. Some rebuilding occurred in 1725-1726 by Smith of Warwick. The hospital is part of a group that includes the Church of Saint Mary, Templars Hall, the Entrance Gateway, side walls, the Vicarage, and Temple House.
