Description
Handsworth Lodge is a house built in the late 18th century, constructed from stuccoed brick and topped with a slate roof in the Gothick style. It is a single-storey building. The main part of the south facade features two bays, which are supported by clasping buttresses and a central pilaster strip. Below the parapet, there is a moulded band with coping. The windows are adorned with architraves that include impost blocks and ogee tops, each ending in poppy heads. The gables are finished with coped edges and finials.
To the right of the main facade is a lower bay that has a parapet and a window surround similar to those on the main part. Adjacent to this is a possible addition that includes a gable and two more window surrounds. The west gable wall faces the driveway and features clasping buttresses with blind tracery decoration. It also has a crocketted ogee arch with a poppy head and blind tracery that encloses three smaller arches. The outer two arches are windows similar to those on the south facade, while the middle arch contains a doorway that is topped with a shield of arms and a helmet. This building was formerly a lodge to Great Barr Hall in Walsall.
