Description

The Central Memorial in Memorial Gardens is a war memorial built in 1926 by Bateman of Birmingham. It is made of limestone and has a square plan. The corners feature diagonal volutes that end in lions' heads beneath a cornice. Each side of the cornice rises to create an open segmental pediment that contains a shell motif above a panel with moulded borders. The upper part of the memorial is designed to resemble an obelisk, with a cross carved on each side.
