Description

The Old Blue Ball Public House is a public house dating from the early to mid-19th century. It is constructed of rendered brick and features a slate roof. The building is two storeys high and has two bays. On the ground floor, there are timber canted bay windows that are connected by a timber fascia. The first floor windows are sashed and have glazing bars. A door is located between the bays, and there are chimneys on the gables at the front of the ridge. The pub is locally known as "Spittle's" after its former landlord, Jonah Spittle (1765 - 1844), who organized cock fights on nearby land and is referenced in the well-known broadside ballad "Wedgebury Cocking."
